With our planet’s resources under increasing pressure—70% of freshwater withdrawals go toward agriculture, 33% of the world’s arable land is used to feed livestock, and 15% of global greenhouse gas emissions are linked to livestock farming—it’s evident that our current food system is unsustainable. Already, over 800 million people go to bed hungry each night. As the global population is expected to reach 10 billion by 2050, the demand for protein is set to grow by 70% that same year.
To continue to feed the world’s population without destroying our planet, innovative solutions are not only desirable: they are critical to make sure can pass on our way of life to the next generations.
