Senior Scientist iPSC

Delft, the Netherlands

About the role

We are on a mission to make 100% real, delicious meat, without the negative impact on our climate and the need to raise and slaughter animals.

The Meatable approach for creating ‘cell-based’ meat is based on ground-breaking proprietary technology that was developed at The University of Cambridge and allows us to turn induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) into muscle and fat cells, creating 100% real, delicious, guilt free meat. We use iPSCs because they have amazing benefits that enable affordable, at scale production (e.g. they are pluripotent, grow completely serum free, have unlimited proliferation capacity and can grow in suspension). With our technology, scalable cell-based meat production is becoming a reality.
We are a young and fast-growing company and are entering our next wave of growth. Given our size, new team members will be a huge part of our motivated multidisciplinary team. Our culture encourages everybody on the team to actively shape their position and we provide ample opportunities for personal and professional growth.

To help grow our portfolio of mammalian cell lines we are looking for a Scientist with proven experience with the development of iPSC cell lines.

As a Senior Scientist with experience in the derivation and characterization of iPSC cell lines you will be a key member of our Cell Line Development team, where you will be working within our iPSC Derivation team to develop novel pluripotent stem cell lines from livestock. You will be directly involved in the establishment and characterization of novel iPSC cell lines that will be used in research and in product development.

The ideal candidate has experience with the generation of iPSC cell lines with different reprogramming methods (non-integrative methods) and different source material (fibroblasts, PBMCs, etc). The candidate has knowledge of the molecular mechanisms of pluripotency and reprogramming, understands the differences and similarities between species (naive versus primed, cell signalling, markers etc.) and can translate this into new strategies for reprogramming. He or she has ample experience with molecular and cell biology techniques, preferably including CRISPR/Cas and/or other gene editing techniques.

Qualifications

  • PhD/Postdoc 4+ years of similar relevant industry experience in Stem Cell Biology, Molecular and Cell Biology, Cellular Reprogramming, Biomedical Sciences, Developmental Biology, or similar fields
  • Expertise with molecular cell biology techniques, preferably CRISPR/Cas and/or other gene editing techniques.
  • Expertise in reprogramming into iPSC and/or with the development of reporter cell lines
  • Knowledge of pluripotent stem cell culture, pluripotency and cell signalling is required
  • Experience with NGS, RNA-seq analysis and other bioinformatic tools is necessary and applied to the bovine genome is considered an advantage
  • Experience working with livestock-derived cell lines and genetic engineering in bovine or porcine cell lines or other livestock models is a bonus
  • Ability to work independently within a group, driving innovation

Meatable Offers

  • A competitive salary
  • Participation in our employee stock option plan and pension plan
  • A dynamic work environment in a new exciting field using cutting edge technologies, working with the leaders in the field
  • A caring culture with strong emphasis on team performance and personal development
  • A Gym Membership
