Intern Cell Encapsulation

Delft, the Netherlands

About the role

The Meatable approach for creating ‘cell-based’ meat is based on ground-breaking proprietary technology that was developed at The University of Cambridge and allows us to turn induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) into muscle and fat cells, creating 100% real, delicious, guilt free meat. We use iPSCs because they have amazing benefits that enable affordable, at scale production (e.g. they are pluripotent, grow completely serum free, have unlimited proliferation capacity and can grow in suspension). With our technology, scalable cell-based meat production is becoming a reality.

We are a young and fast-growing company and are entering our next wave of growth. Given our size, new team members will be a huge part of our motivated multidisciplinary team. Our culture encourages everybody on the team to actively shape their position and we provide ample opportunities for personal and professional growth.
As Cell Encapsulation Intern you will be working on optimising and exploring cell encapsulation strategies for 3D tissue production. You will work in the Tissue Engineering Team to advance and scale-up our Meat production process. Together with the team, you will start testing encapsulation strategies at a small, bench-scale level, to eventually progress to bioreactor volumes. You will work with both fat and muscle cell differentiation to create cultivated meat.

• Maintaining mammalian cells in culture
• Performing 3D cell encapsulation
• Troubleshooting cell encapsulation protocols, when needed
• Testing encapsulation strategies in shaker and bioreactor systems
• Communicating results in a clear and concise manner

In order to be successful in this role you need to be a proactive communicator and have a hands on mentality with attention to detail. You need to be flexible, be a trouble-shooter, and be able to change priorities in a dynamic and fast-growing organization. If you possess these skills and if you get excited when reading this role you are the person we are looking for!

  • Bachelor degree (preferable)
  • Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture
  • Hands-on experience with biomaterials and 3D cell encapsulation is a plus
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
  • Desired start date: April 2023
